Mini-Murals in the Short North
Columbus' Short North District is more than just a great place to bar hop or get a delicious Sunday brunch—it's also chock full of art galleries. As a part of 200Columbus, the city's bicentennial celebration, the Short North now features many "mini-murals," high-resolution photographs of works of art (ten of them from the Short North's own galleries) enlarged and printed onto vinyl that, when heated, clings to the outlines and contours of the neighborhood's buildings and gives the illusion of being painted onto the brick and mortar itself. If you visit the local (and now national) favorite Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams on High Street in the Short North, you can see for yourself the depiction of American Gothic. This mural, of course, is not one of the ten highlighted mini-murals of works by Columbus artists but it's a great depiction nonetheless.
