Miles of Textiles
Having loved Indian fabrics and design for many years, when I was invited to go along on a buying trip with Katrina Ulrich of Red Persimmon Imports, I jumped at the chance. Sanganer, just outside of Jaipur is where blocks are carved from teak and rosewood and the fabric is still printed by hand as its been done since the 11th century. Today, the streets are a jumble of camels piled high with colorful loads of fabric headed to market. Miles of fabric hanging or laid across roofs to dry, cows sleeping in the middle of 4 lanes of traffic, and open storefronts with men sitting crossed legged carving intricate designs.
