Shilparamam is easily Hyderabad's best-kept shopping secret. Subsidized by the state government, this arts and crafts village is one of the cheapest sources of all things gorgeous -- from lovely wooden sculptures and furniture, to handicrafts, wall hangings and silk sarees.
The village also has a charming little lake with boating and sometimes holds art shows.
My memories of Shilparamam are ALL happy, 'cause they involve shopping, one of my favorite things to do ;) I'd rate the gorgeous antique lamp (glass+wrought iron) I bought here for a steal, as my best buy from the place.
The patch-work cloth wall hanging I purchased here has adorned the wall in my living room for years now, and usually gets a positive response from guests.
The cream-colored Kashmiri silk saree with delicate embroidery I bought still rates among my faves in my personal saree collection (it helped that I bought it at a price wayy lower than an air-conditioned saree showroom would demand).
Avoid going in the afternoon, coz it's an open-air place and gets very hot...put on plenty of sun-screen, take a hat or an umbrella and you're ready to party!
