The Sheraton’s Gingerbread Village might just be Seattle’s sweetest holiday attraction. From just before Thanksgiving to just past New Year’s, you can join the crowds oohing and ahhing over the large and wonderfully detailed confectionary constructions in the hotel’s lobby. Each year, local companies design fanciful gingerbread houses according to a theme, and visitors can vote for their favorite. Weekends and lunchtimes tend to be the busiest; try going on a weekday afternoon for smaller crowds and better picture-taking. Admission is free, but voluntary donations benefit JDRF Northwest Chapter, the local branch of a global organization funding Type 1 diabetes research.
