We visited our friend in Serbia. Though his family is from Beograd (Belgrade), they have a house in a small village a few hours outside of town. This is where his family spend most of their time in the 1990s during the war in the Balkan peninsula to get out of the powderkeg that was Beograd.

I loved this guy! We were the first Americans to ever visit this village, and they were amused that we liked to photograph things they saw as so everyday- like pigs and laundry and haystacks. While in the Village we overheard a woman call her neighbor lazy for buying yogurt when she had a perfectly good milk cow- My American penchant for eating prepared foods (oftentimes in my car- unheard of in Serbia) has never made me feel more pathetic/out of place. There is really something to be said for eating all natural, freshly prepared, locally sourced meals.
