Early Morning... Freezing... Deserted Streets: Perfect for Photography!
Sapporo, the capital of Hokkaido, doesn't appeal as a place to visit for a peaceful and relaxing time.
Sure enough, the fifth largest city in Japan was bustling when I got there. So in order to photograph scenes of tranquility, I got up early one Sunday morning and walked around the frozen streets.
As expected, the place was empty. Having studied a map of the city the night before, I made a slow walk covering the main streets, starting with the old Government Building (pictured above), passing the TV Tower, and traversing the deserted shopping area before heading back to the hotel. Needless to say, I shot lots of photos along the way.
This bird was shivering in the cold and sat sun-bathing on a fence. It couldn't care less when people passed by. I walked up very close to it and it happily posed for my camera as I clicked away.
This was a truly memorable walk and probably the one hour I shall cherish most from my whole trip.
