Nestled in the lively Pijp area in the heart of Amsterdam, just off Sarphatipark, this newly-open café sets the tone as soon as you step inside. White walls, wooden furniture and understated tableware in a beautifully pared-down décor : Scandinavian design in a nutshell.
You might perceive Scandinavia and its inhabitants as cold as the snow that often covers their land, but Rikard Andersson and Nicolas Castagno, founders of this authentic nordic deli, are genuine, down-to-earth and warm-hearted people. While Rikard oversees food - from contacting quality suppliers to cooking healthy dishes, with the help of norwegian chef Trond - and chats with the customers, Nicolas, 2013 Brewers Cup Champion of Sweden, and Daniel, barista and graduated sommelier, enhance the culinary experience by pairing coffee with the traditional and delicate dishes which evolve on the menu : smoked salmon and poached eggs on rye bread, sautéed moose heart, fermented herring, bear sausages... Those who have a sweet tooth won’t be disappointed either : carrot cake, cinnamon rolls and buns are waiting for you to take a ‘fikapaus’.
If that is not enough to convince you, bear in mind that Scandinavian Embassy won two awards in 2014, its opening year . They are the proud winners of the ‘Best coffee concept’ award granted by Entree Magazine as well as the ‘Best new café’ award by coffee news & culture magazine Sprudge.com.
