While Savannah has all the traditional things that makes Southern cities great—tasty soul food, horse-drawn carriages and historic antebellum mansions—the Savannah River is also an active and important shipping route. As the nation's 10th busiest port you're bound to see a ship float by. If you're lucky, you'll be able to see the water from your room or walk along the water nearby. The great thing is if you're near the water, you won't miss them!
I like to explore the shops of Savannah's River Street and then sit with a cool drink and fresh-from-the-oven pecan praline to watch the boats go by for a bit.
