Fantastic Chardonnay and German Beer at Saracen Winery
Before my visit to the beautiful Saracen Estates, I was far from being a fan of most types of Chardonnay, particularly any with much oak. However, while tasting at the Cellar Door in this Margaret River Winery -- known to be one of the best in the area -- I had an oaked-Chardonnay that changed my mind forever. It is one of many wines at Saracen that has won awards and which has served to distinguish this estate in a group of wineries well known for producing world-class wine.
Saracen also hosts the Duckstein Brewery for lovers of classicly-made German beer. So if you happen to visit with a group of wine enthusiasts when the grape isn't your "cup of tea", never fear.
Leave time for lingering when you visit Saracen, the Cellar Door and tasting room look out over a beautiful lake and rolling vineyards that beg the visitor to relax and go slow. Particularly toward the end of a day when the fading light of a Western Australia sunset seems to make the yellow stone of the building look like woven gold.
