An hour and a half south by car, the port of San Juan del Sur is a fun outing for Aqua guests thanks to its laid-back surfer vibe and string of funky beachside bars and restaurants. (We recommend you do the trip at least one way by boat, so you can view Nicaragua’s spectacular “Emerald Coast” en route.) Once there, hike up the town’s steepest hill to the Christ of the Mercy Statue, at nearly 79 feet high one of the tallest statues of Jesus in the world. Here you’ll enjoy a bird’s-eye view of the harbor, town, and coastline—all the way south to Costa Rica! If you are up for adventure, Aqua can arrange in advance for you to go zip-lining near San Juan del Sur, or horseback riding. At Rancho Chilamate, you’ll experience their horseback riding adventure, which ends on the deserted beach where “Survivor: Nicaragua” was filmed.
