Don’t be put off by the fact that this expansive riverfront esplanade, which winds through the center of downtown San Antonio, is one of the major tourist attractions in Texas. Like so many other super-popular destinations, this one is well worth the hype. The River Walk encompasses 15 miles of walking paths, flanked on one side by the glittering San Antonio River and on the other by a long skein of museums, galleries, pubs, and restaurants punctuated by umbrella-shaded tables. It’s an idyllic place to spend an afternoon strolling—but if you’d rather enjoy the scenery from the water, river cruise tours are available, too.
