Located north of the East Texas town of Jasper, in the heart of the Piney Woods, the vast Sam Rayburn Reservoir extends for more than 110,000 acres of surface water. Activities include swimming (most of the parks have beaches), boating, trail hiking, birding, and picnicking, and there are also campsites open in the spring and summer. (One of the six parks, Ebenezer, boasts 13 campsites, as well as equestrian trails). Sam Rayburn is also a perfect family destination, thanks to large shelters and pavilions ideal for group gatherings and reunions, and group activity sites like basketball, volleyball, and horseshoe courts. No matter what your pleasure, you'll find the lake’s pine and oak forests verdant and lush.
