Sure, you may never do whitewater, portage through the backcountry, or bag that trophy bear. And odds are pretty good (though not overwhelming) that you may not be bushwhacking in snowshoes through mountain passes deep with snow.
But you can dream. And you can shop as if you were going to accomplish such feats in a downright fun store called “Sail.”
Walk in and you feel the adrenaline. Just off to the right, 300 sets of snowshoes, canoes lashed to the wall above. Kayaks stack on racks 50 feet high. The guy helping you is an outdoor guide by summer, sales staff by winter.
That’s key to this establishment: not just all these really cool toys but staff who know how to use them. “We’ve got guys up in the fishing department who have been fishing for fifty years,” says staffer Graham Stewart. And they’ve got equipment that’s just as obsessive.
