Despite Montreal being the most romantic city in the New World, some lovebirds will enjoy getting away from the action and retiring to the countryside for the weekend. The Orford Express train ride in the bucolic Eastern Townships is quite scenic, to say the least, and opens the door to many gastronomical and quaint experiences like wine tasting and state-of-the-art B&Bs. In the Mauricie region stands Hôtel Sacacomie, a massive, luxurious log-cabin type that overlooks one of the province’s largest lakes. It’s also home to a world-class Nordic spa for romantic wellness sessions. Travelers with ample time on their hands should head east and experience Hôtel La Ferme in Charlevoix, famous for its eco-friendly design and farm-to-table restaurant.

Autumn Colours at Hotel Sacacomie
Although it's just two hours north of Montreal, Hotel Sacacomie feels a lifetime away. The Autumn pace is slow and the scenery is deluxe.
Perhaps the best autumn colours in Canada, simply walking around the resort property will be enough to see endless hues of red, orange, and yellow. But a flight over the region, organized at the hotel's activities desk, is the best way to see the entire sea of colours.
Autumn colours are best in late September and early October.
