Maybe you’ve come down to visit Seaworld in Shekou, and need an escape. The NH Cool area was cool long before the frenzy of building over in Seaworld. It’s almost...thoughtful. They are old factory buildings, owned by Sanyo, converted into an arty area. The exteriors of the buildings are ivy covered, and many of the crosswalks have sculptures. I love this area, maybe more than anywhere else in Shenzhen. Ryu is definitely my favorite coffee shop here. First, the area is still too dominated by chains, so I’m simply thankful to have an independent coffee shop. Ryu is partially owned by Japanese people, and it has that quirky influence inside. There are board games to borrow, funky chairs, and the best cheesecake in Shenzhen.
