Take a Magic Carpet Ride at Riad AnaYela
Marrakesh is famed for its relaxing and luxurious riads. But few have a story quite as interesting as Riad AnaYela along Rue Ibn Aicha. Dating back over 300 years, this grand palace in the heart of city unfolded a piece of its complex puzzle when renovation in 2007 unearthed a hidden room. In the hidden room, renovators found a casket. Inside the casket was a piece of paper which told the story of a young girl called Yela and the boy she adored. Yela and her love would sit on an old carpet at night and watch the stars, when one night he told her that the carpet could fly if she paid the price of a simple kiss. This is the lovely fable my wife and I were told upon arrival. Whether guests believe the tale or not, there’s no denying that the magic of this legend can be experienced in this wonderful house in every part of its design, service and atmosphere. We had always wanted to stay in an enchanted riad in Marrakech – we’d heard so much about them – and when we booked our stay with Chic Retreats - link to their site below -, we were surprised to find such a historical gem. Every detail of this riad made our stay completely perfect. And truly romantic. You can enjoy dinner and drinks on the roof terrace at night or al fresco barbeque dining. Whatever sort of luxury you’re after, this riad can cater to it all. Travel Tip: make the most of the riad’s front desk. They can help you organise trips to the Atlas Mountains or guided shopping trips around the souks.
