Lunch with a view at Roundhouse restaurant in Sun Valley
It's not often that you get to pretend you're in the Swiss Alps, taking in views of snow-capped mountains as you dip a piece of bread into warm bubbling cheese fondue. The trip to Roundhouse restaurant on top of Bald Mountain in Sun Valley ski resort in Idaho starts with a gondola ride - such a fun and romantic way to kickoff a special lunch/dinner. Midway up the mountain sits Roundhouse restaurant in the crook of a ridge. You can choose to dine either in the main restaurant which is a throwback to the old times of fine dining in a luxuriously cozy, intimate setting, or you can choose to head downstairs to Averell's bar which has a more laidback vibe, albeit still charming and rustic.
I chose to dine at Averell's and was delighted to be seated right next to the huge picture windows that offer a scenic view of the ski slopes and valley, framed by picturesque Sawtooth mountains of Idaho. Averell's menu is a shorter version of the main menu, but one can still get their famous fondue accompanied by tongue-tickling delights like hot creamy tomato bisque and swiss chip dip made with gaufrette potato, chili spice and caramelized Vidalia onion with crème fraiche. Sounds gourmet and tastes even better!
Roundhouse restaurant is a great place to unwind after a day of skiing. Sip on a local beer as you take in the stunning mountain views and indulge in an afternoon of après ski relaxation.
Go on, pretend you're in the Swiss Alps. Nobody can tell otherwise!
