Scheduled to open in late spring of 2015, the 190-room Rosewood at Baha Mar will be the most upscale property of a five-hotel, 2,900-room resort-casino complex so massive it has rightly been called Las Vegas with a beach. Baha Mar, financially backed by the Export-Import Bank of China, sits on a 3,000-foot stretch of white sand at Cable Beach, on New Providence Island, minutes from the airport in one direction and downtown Nassau in the other. And within sight, across the water, is the 3,400-room Atlantis Paradise Island Resort, whose principals are nervously watching the $3.5 billion project and wondering if there will be enough airline seats to fill everybody’s rooms. Almost half the Rosewood’s rooms are suites, the island’s largest, with an architecture that’s British colonial, and a decor, including original local art, that’s Bahamian.

As secluded as it is—with pool, beach, and hotel services available only to its guests—the Rosewood also offers easy access to all the other Baha Mar experiences. These include the 100,000-square-foot casino (the largest in the Caribbean), an 18-hole championship Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course, a 2,000-seat performing arts center, an eco-waterpark, upscale shopping and dining at Waterside Place, and a “show” lake featuring Vegas-esque dancing fountains.
