Ransom Canyon is the site of unusually innovative homes designed by architect Robert Bruno. The Steel House (seen here) and the Rock House draw tourists, photographers and even models and crews from Vogue, who shot a major fashion spread using Bruno's distinctive buildings as a backdrop. It's also known as a cover girl on Texas's haunted runway. Ghostly orbs have been seen in and around local homes, and the town's history as a place where Apache and Comanche tribes kidnapped white settlers for ransom plays a part in the ghostly tales. Locals say that the town's lake is haunted by two girls and their mother, who died when the mother, fearing abduction in the raid, drowned her daughters and herself here.
