Eaten mainly by women -- Cambodian men like to joke that real men don't eat fruit -- you’ll see women on bicycles or carrying baskets or plastic tubs selling pickled fruit in the late afternoon. The most popular are sliced green and yellow tropical fruits, such as guava, sapodilla, rose apple, jujube, wax apple, green papaya and green mango. Some are lightly pickled, others more heavily pickled, and some vendors will also sell fresh fruit alongside the tangier fruits. Regardless, they're all eaten with a mixture of salt, sugar and chilli, which you dip the slices or quarters of fruit into. Cambodian women claim to crave the fruits when they are pregnant.
