I found a real treat at the Anjo Verde restaurant in Braga. I was in desperate need of healthy food after a week of travelling around the north of Portugal and all the cheese and ham that entailed. The place was obviously popular with locals and I was instantly soothed by the simple décor, mellow jazz and the complimentary pot of herbal tea that appeared as soon as I sat down.
Anjo Verde (Green Angel) is a vegetarian restaurant and the main dish comes surrounded by other meat-free side dishes, such as pineapple chutney. I couldn’t have counted the number of different vegetables on my plate if I’d wanted to but I know I had more than my 5-a-day in one sitting. The desserts sounded scrumptious but there was no way I could squeeze one in.
