In January of 2005, only a few short weeks after the devastating tsunami that hit Asia, I spent 2 weeks sailing through a Thailand that was rebounding. Just being around them was inspirational... They were happy to see tourists (as the news media scared off most of them) and went out of their way to welcome us.
At this particular beach bar we stopped at, there were longtail boats that had been destroyed by tsunami and washed ashore (you can see them in this photo behind the palm tree on the left). When the sun went down, the Thais used the wood to build a beach bonfire for us.
This image for all of us represented just how amazingly resilient they are, and how anxious to move forward.
