If you ever find yourself driving along the winding, desert roads near the southernmost borders of Israel and Egypt, you may be lucky enough to catch the Gulf of Aqaba at sunrise. I was traveling throughout Palestine and Israel, and had crossed the border from Eilat, Israel, into Taba, Egypt the night before this photo was taken. Early the next morning, I found a taxi driver willing to take me on the long haul back to Cairo. As we set out on the dusty, lonely road, the sun began to rise over the Gulf of Aqaba. I often wonder if the taxi driver remembers this moment as fondly as I do.
