This past August I took a backpacking trip with friends around Cambodia, hiring local van drivers to get our group through some of more remote locations. During this drive, one of the tires on the hired van blew a flat. As we sat and waited outside the van, on the side of the road for the driver to replace the tire, we enjoyed a site not often seen in America; a local, wearing a tan US Army jacket, black flip flops transporting three live pigs on the back of his moped. After the initial shock of what we witnessed, we realized this is why we travel, to see how the other half of the world lives. What may be so shocking to us, is just another day in paradise for them.
