What does one do when they visit the green, gorgeous state of Washington? Go hiking of course. Since I was a newbie (and my hometown doesn’t exactly have mountains), a friend suggested I start with Rattlesnake. It’s about a 4 mile hike (up & back) to Rattlesnake Ledge with an elevation gain of approximately 1100 ft. Wear comfy shoes and clothes, grab water, and I would highly recommend taking a camera with you as well.
The trail is beautiful; you’re surrounded by trees and it’s cool underneath the canopy. Do not give up half way if the incline seems daunting because the view at the top is well worth the effort. I promise, your muscles can take it. Once at the top, the overlook gives a view of Mt. Si, the Snoqualmie Valley, and Rattlesnake Lake below. Definitely time to bust out the camera you brought with you! It’s an absolutely breathtaking view. By the time you get back down, especially if the sun has been shining, you’ll need to cool off and what better way to do that than go swimming at the lake at bottom of the trail. This is a great beginner hike because after this you'll draw up a list of other hikes to tackle!
