Unlikely Art - Pushkar

The moment I entered a certain hindu temple in the holy lakeside town of Pushkar, India, I felt overwhelmed. Chanting, singing, clapping, bells and music filled the air around me, as crowds moved through its bustling confines . Yet after finding a space to sit down, I noticed that next to me, a group of elderly women sat quietly and carefully making beautiful designs on the floor of the temple, with what appeared to be small beans. It was an unlikely, unexpected moment to see such acts of delicacy and grace, in the midst of such intense outward expressions of overwhelming devotion.

Yet such moments are common in India's fascinating landscape of contrasts and contradictions..
