Experiencing Hakka in Puli, Taiwan
The small village of Puli, outside of Sun Moon Lake, is an off-the-beaten-path experience—not only a place where Japanese paper is handcrafted but also a great spot to get some authentic Hakka cuisine. This Chinese cuisine, which was brought to Taiwan during the Hakka migration from southern China, is spicy, healthy, and hearty. At Ya-Zhou Hakka, snack on river fish, crunchy water oats, spicy pork with green onion, and tofu served with rice. You can eat like royalty for very cheap and catch up with loved ones over the round tables at this small, family-owned restaurant.
