Puerto Jiménez

The former gold-mining town of Puerto Jiménez lies just past the entrance to the Golfo Dulce. It's a sleepy spot where Ticos (Costa Ricans) fish off the end of the muelle público, or jetty. The view from your anchored ship will likely reveal much more action among the sports fishermen in their tricked-out charter boats. As they proudly hoist their massive trophy catches of marlin, barracuda, snook and Cubera snapper, you can watch the hungry frigate birds and pelicans zero in for a meal.
