Life In A Incan Fortified Village
Pucara de Tilcara is a short walk southeast of the town. You can approach from the north (most popular) or the south, which feels like a construction road. But the road from the south gives superb view of surrounding mountains. Upon entering the site, you will see the ecological garden. Turning right you will start walking uphill towards the adobe houses and series of mazes. Each house is either reconstructed or well preserved and you can enter each of them. At the top you will see 'the monument' which was built after the recovery of the site. The hill top provides 360 degree view. There is an nominal entrance fee but it is free on Mondays.
