After winding your way through the rugged Scottish Highlands, stepping off The Royal Scotsman train and into the coastal town on Plockton can be a shock to the senses. Warm waters from the Gulf Stream create a balmy microclimate on the sheltered Loch Carron bay that’s a world a way from the rest of the region. Spend time walking among the white clapboard harbor homes and enjoy a pint of summer ale under the shade of a palm tree (tropical plants thrive here). Or take a boat cruise out to sea to watch the seals, porpoises and dolphins that call this unique spot home.
