It was a girls-only trip for my mother and me after I graduated college. It had its bumps and bruises (literally) as we bumbled from the Costa Rican interior (doing the usual zip-lining, river rafting and waterfall repelling) to the Pacific Coast. Arriving in Santa Teresa was like everything slowed down and mellowed out. Gone were the crazy van rides on winding mountain roads. Gone were the screaming kids on the ferry. Gone were any memories of the Minnesotan winter we'd left far, far behind.
We stayed in a cute boutique lodge and, as part of our arranged 'surf and adventure retreat,' woke up to daily yoga lessons followed by individualized surf lessons. Playa Santa Teresa is a beautiful beach with a spacious break and room enough for both beginner and advanced surfers.
The weather was close to perfect the whole time we were there and nothing quite compares to joining the whole town on the beach to watch the sunset and catch a few more waves before the night takes over.
From the adrenaline of surfing to the relaxation of open-air yoga, this trip had everything.
