Surreal Phosphorescent Blue Room in Santa Cruz
Curacao's Blue Room will remind some of Capri’s ancient Blue Grotto (Grotta Azzurra), but the Caribbean sea is much, much warmer than the Mediterranean! Captain Goodlife (Juni Obersi) arranges tours of the mostly secluded area surrounding Santa Cruz by boat; a favorite ‘Goodlife’ coastal adventure is diving into the Blue Room. Natural sunlight passes through the cave and shines through the water, creating a surreal phosphorescent blue reflection that illuminates the whole cave… A blue so vibrant you’ll want to capture it in a jar… (I recommend film!). The cave's unique visual experience is accompanied by an equally unique aural experience: strong current will produce a loud whistling sound as rough waves crash to and from. So the cave compresses air and forces it out — ‘whistling’ for miles — most locals call this cave as “Boka Fluit” (Whistling Mouth).
