Of all the gardens in Cornwall Pine Lodge in St Austell is one of my favourites and one of Cornwall's best kept secrets. The Clemo family created this beautiful garden and have a real passion for gardening and horticulture. They combined this with their other love of travel and journeyed the world collecting seeds, plants and ideas and were inspired to develop this beautiful garden which is open to the public.
What I love about Pine Lodge is that it has developed over the years as pieces were added and has been a lifetime project for Mr and Mrs Clemo who were friends with my father. There is a Japanese garden, hidden corners, quiet ponds and lawns stretching down to huge trees and rhododendrons. Each plant is labelled so that curious visitors can use the information to develop their own gardens. With over 6000 varieties of plant there is a lot to see. The shop is full of unusual varieties of plant as the owners know this is a garden for gardeners to appreciate.
