Perricone's Marketplace: An Italian Garden in an Urban Setting
Last week I had the pleasure of dining at Perricones Marketplace & Cafe in Miami’s trendy Mary Brickell Village. It is the kind of place you can just relax in. The indoor/outdoor patio keeps you out of the blazing Florida sun, but still provides a romantic ambiance. To start we tore into baked brie cheese wrapped in puff pastry dough, brushed with drawn butter and powdered brown sugar. The top was sprinkled with shaved almonds and sticky apricot jam. The melty cheese combined with the sweet sugar and jam was a perfect introduction to an unforgettable meal. While we were still flowing from the bruschetta bread basket, our main courses arrived. I had the pasta special—lobster ravioli in a pink vodka sauce. We tried the lamb chops, seasoned with rosemary and served perfectly pink atop a bed of couscous and steamed asparagus. The salmon in a lemon butter sauce was served with the same side dishes. It was truly the best salmon I've ever eaten. For dessert we tried the house cake, a combination of chocolate and hazelnuts. It’s a rich as a brownie, so we got it with a side of vanilla bean gelato. It’s the kind of dessert that you want to savor. There’s an awesome Italian market in the lobby, and I stocked up on pesto, seafood dip, and plenty of to-go truffles. Be sure to try the peanut butter teardrop. It made my evening.
