In Bali there are numerous choices for anyone wishing to get into some turtle action! Off the main highway to Java, around three hours from Denpasar is Kurma Asih, a project with a difference. Initiated by the people of Perancak village, Kurma Asih offers an experience that is a little more isolated and a lot more real. Here the villagers collect and protect turtle eggs for safe release and conduct education programs for local schools, highlighting the plight of turtles and the importance of caring for local environment. They hope that by offering these experiences to tourists they can educate the wider community and use fees to sustain the project long term. Options for visitors include day visits, overnight home stays and volunteer work. In a truly beautiful part of the Bali, a visit to Kurma Asih is made even better by the people who welcome you into their homes and lives.
