This photo was taken amid a glorious thunderstorm atop the Revel Hotel in Long Island City, which houses one of NYC's hidden gems: Penthouse808.
Luckily, you don't need to be a guest in the hotel to enjoy their rooftop bar and restaurant. With a spectacular view of Manhattan--and an Asian-fusion menu that includes clever sushi combos, pizza, burgers, and stir fry--it's a great place to eat, drink, and watch the sunset. Don't leave without trying their signature wasabi margaritas (the plural here is intentional; I doubt you'll have just one), which are bound to ignite your tongue and spirits.
Thankfully, Long Island City is still one of NYC's up-and-coming neighborhoods, so Penthouse808 hasn't yet been invaded and ruined by the ever-shifting gentrification of NYC. It's a great place to go for a quiet early dinner by yourself, or with a group of friends late at night when they turn down the lights and turn up the music. I recommend going while this place is still relatively unknown and the drinks are still strong.
