Within hours of our arrival at Peaks n’ Swells Family Surf Camp in Costa Rica, we had picked fresh mangoes, spotted a capuchin monkey, and were walking down the beach to our first surf session.
The small, family-owned beachfront property is situated on the tip of the Nicoya Peninsula, a world-renowned surfers paradise. Our knowledgeable instructors had us all up and catching waves the very first day—the kids as fearless and agile as they were in the mountains back home, my husband and I thrilled to fulfill the dream of learning to surf.
While the surf sessions were the centerpiece of everyday, there was plenty of time to experience the wildlife and rugged beauty of Costa Rica. During our stay, we released baby sea turtles, swung from the rope swing above the Montezuma Waterfall, walked to town for smoothies, and listened to the howler monkeys outside our villa. Fresh, healthy meals served family-style back at camp topped off the experience, and were a welcome sight after a long day in the waves.
Peaks n’ Swells offers professionally coached, all-inclusive family surf camps November through April.
