Sjuøyane Archipelago

The Sjuøyane archipelago’s name means “seven islands,” and most of them (such as the largest island Parryøya) feature rough, hat-shaped gneiss and granite mountains that jut skyward. Little Tavleøya is essentially a steep rock island in itself. Relatively warmer Gulf Stream currents up here at the Northeast Svalbard Nature Reserve allow for a longer open-water season and plenty of polar bear sightings. Colonies of Atlantic puffins and guillemot birds flourish around the island of Phippsøya.
