I planned for a long time to go hiking in Cheile Nerei-Beusnita National Park, and it finally happened in the summer of 2015. Although not as tall or difficult to hike as the other areas of the Carpathians, this place is one of the wildest in the country.
The gorges of the river Nera are spectacular, and the hiking trails are breathtaking and easy enough to do them with kids. Besides the gorges, the highlights are the lakes Ochiul Beiului and Devil's Lakes.
The only problem is with the local accommodation which is really scarce in the area, only in Sasca Montanta or Sasca Romana.
Vipers are also present in the national park, but they are very difficult to encounter. You shouldn't worry too much about it.
This national park is very close to Bigar Waterfall, one of the most famous in the world and the Danube's most impressive gorges from the Iron Gates.
