The Paradisus was the top 5 star all inclusive built on Varadero Beach in the early 2000s. It has lost some of it's lustre since then, but the rooms in the new Royal Concierge area are still highly worth visiting. They include outdoor showers and balconies with beach beds. The Royal Club area also gives you access to upgraded food and drinks, as well as a private check in and free wifi (in common areas). They are also scheduled to open a new Family Upgraded Concierge area in a few months. Just remember this is Cuba - even in the exclusive Royal Service area it's not uncommon to find things not quite fully operational and the food while often delicious is not up to the standards of other destinations in Mexico and the Caribbean. You would be hard pressed to find better mojitos and more beautiful beach though - and catamarans from the resort can take you out for a short boat tide snorkelling on a reef for only $20 CUC. You can also take out sea kayaks to enjoy the crystal clear waters and powered white sand beach while the sounds of Cuban salsa play in the background. A great place to relax for the week.
