Relax, Explore and Disconnect in Pagudpud, Philippines
Upon the recommendation of a friend, I braved the 10 hour bus ride from Manila to Pagudpud, where I stayed at Pannzian Resort. Leave any hopes for cell service or wifi behind in Manila and come up here to get away from it all. I rented one of the smaller rooms, sparse but clean, on this beautiful property that has been passed down through many generations and is now run by a mother and her son.
Not only were the duo fantastic and helpful (booked my bus ticket, emailed me everything I needed to know for the journey, and welcomed me with a local lei), but ready to cater to any type of person. The place sits on the beach, has hammocks scattered about so you can lounge, read and relax your day away. The restaurant has a good variety of local and fresh foods, so in theory you could never leave your little oasis if you so chose. But for those in search of some adventure and some sights less seen, they can arrange some exceptional daily outings around the area.
Highlights of the sights around include:
- a trip to Kapuluan Vista Resort for the surf and the food
- a trek out to a nearby village, Adams, where you can do the 5k hike to an isolated waterfall and take a dip as a reward; follow the hike with a visit to Adams' 'winery' for lunch, tasting, and some souvenir shopping; climb the stairs to 'lover's point' for a view of the green and lush village at the foot of the mountain; if you're lucky, try fresh cacao fruit!
If off the track is your thing, this is the place for you!
