Panama Canal Museum

Right on the main square of Casco Viejo, the Panama Canal Museum approaches the canal as a technological and engineering marvel while also addressing its environmental impact on the region's biodiversity. There are wonderful historic photos of the herculean construction project, while the kid in you will get a kick out of virtually piloting a ship. The magnificent 1874 building that houses the museum was originally a posh hotel, then later served as the headquarters of the Compagnie Nouvelle du Canal de Panama, or New Panama Canal Company.
