Hostels overtake areas like Piccadilly Circus and King’s Cross, but Palmer’s Lodge Swiss Cottage is located in an area of London that the “real” people live in. A short ride from central London and an even shorter walk to Hampstead Heath, the city’s largest park, Palmer’s Lodge is located in an old mansion up the hill from the Tube station. The Victorian details are uncommon for most hostels and while you will pay a bit more for a dorm room here, the benefits outweigh the cost. The hostel has free wireless Internet, computers for common use, a bar and restaurant, free daily breakfast and a free drink upon check-in. They have triple decker bunks, privacy curtains, reading lights, plugs and lockers, but I would recommend staying in one of the 8 bed dorms over the large 28 bed room.
