We recently had a wonderful Moroccan family adventure based out of a beautiful villa in Marrakech. The concept was to create an “Adventure Villa” using the villa in the Palmeraie as ‘base camp’ and setting up exploratory adventures and experiences from there. It was a magical week with some of the daily activities including a community project visit to a center that provided shelter and daily activities to homeless children, a day at the villa learning to cook Moroccan style, make local pottery and have calligraphy lessons. The obligatory visit to the souks and to Jemaa El Fna to see the snake charmers and storytellers and eating chicken falafel at the local stalls had us all mesmerised with the noise, colour and vibrancy of this famous market place. Lastly an incredible 24 hour excursion up into the Atlas Mountains to stay at the unforgettable Kasbah Toubkal. Climbing up to the Kasbah on donkeys (small children stuffed into basket paniers!) as there is no road and spend the night at this monastic type property falling asleep under a heavy ‘duvet’ of North African stars. Really one of the most memorable experiences you will have. Parents loved it, the children still talk about it - it had the right mix of culture, activities, relaxation (masseuse came to the house and afternoons were spent in the villa pool), education and community involvement. Get yourself to Marrakech and do it for yourself!
