Paço Alfândega

Originally a convent, the Paço Alfândega, located right on the water, became a customs house in the 19th century—a reflection of Recife's major role in the shipping trade—and later it was a warehouse. In its present incarnation, it's an attractive modern shopping center with plenty of café and restaurant options.
