Pacific Tsunami Museum

From the museum's windows, the sea might look deceptively calm. But as the islanders know all too well, tectonic activity can change that in a heartbeat. This museum’s mission is to provide tsunami education; inside you can discover how seismic sea waves begin and the best practices to follow when one rolls in. But the center also preserves history, serving as a poignant memorial to all who died in the two big Hilo tsunamis of 1946 and 1960.
