Planning to attend a wedding in Sweden, I contemplated my transportation options and scheduling obligations before deciding to rent a car and road trip from Copenhagen to Gothenberg, and then on to Stockholm. The drive was beautiful; green grass, wildflowers dotting the countryside, peaceful wind machines generating green energy, and loads of Volvos. It was nearly everything I imagined driving through Sweden to be.
The part of the trip I hadn't thought about much until flying into Copenhagen, was the expansive bridge linking Denmark to Sweden. An architectural and engineering feat, the bridge beautifully rises out of the Drogden Tunnel under the water to artfully strung cable supports. Perhaps more impressive is the multi-modal nature of the bridge. In addition to automobile transport, the bridge has an impressive second tier where trains connect the two countries.
A tad pricey to pay the Swedish toll, the bridge does offer a bit of convenience when travelling between Malmo and Copenhagen by car or train.
