While touring Croatia, I took some time off and visited one of its magnificent cities, Opatija. Though the trip was short, it was both educative and adventurous. My first stop was a rent a car in Opatija that was renting out private cars at very affordable prices. Within twenty minutes, I was behind the wheels of a red Jeep heading towards the Park of St. Jakob and Park Angiolina, one of the must-see sights in the town.
Built in the 18th century, the park holds a rich history of the early Croatia natives, most of whom loved farming. As I went through the beautiful park, I couldn’t avoid noticing the beautiful blend of colored plant life and architectural designs. After taking enough photos of the park, I headed towards the famous 'Maiden with the Seagull' statue.
According to Croatia natives, the statue was erected in 1956 as a symbol of Opatija, a young, vibrant city which was still developing. Designed by Zvonko Car, a renowned sculptor, the statue is located on the bank of the sea along the Lungomare promenade. As I came to learn, the beautiful work of art depicts a woman holding a seagull.Opatija for me was a huge experience but sadly, my trip was way too short for my liking.
