Omi Shrine

Dedicated to the Japanese sun goddess, Amaterasu, the Omi Shrine may be small, but its oceanside setting is still impressive. At the shrine is a large round stone called a dragon egg and a massive boulder made of fused pebbles and rocks. The shrine is located near Isegahama Beach as well as a cave, accessible by steep stairs, that purportedly hosts a dragon (observe the cave entrance from the right angle, say the locals, and you'll be able to see the dragon within). Another of the myriad myths surrounding the shrine says that Emperor Jimmu stopped here to pray for victory on his way to conquer eastern Japan.
