Blessing of the Animals
Every Saturday before Easter Sunday for the last 100+ years, people from all over Los Angeles bring their pets to be blessed by the local priest in a procession of thousands of animals near Calle Olvera, one of the city's oldest and most historic areas. Critters of all kinds - cats, dogs, rabbits, reptiles, horses, birds, pigs, you name it - line up in a parade-like fashion around Los Angeles Plaza Park to be sprinkled with holy water. I watched for two hours and never saw a scuffle, somehow the animals know they are in church, and behave accordingly.
